The Roots of our Shoots
Marudan is a Tamil word originating in one of the language's most ancient texts. It was once used to describe "those who hailed from enchanted fields," and is now aptly used to describe farmers.
Simple, organic farming and gardening have been an important part of our family's traditions for generations. That passion has followed us from our roots in South India all the way to the life we've grown in Crystal Lake, IL, where the micro magic happens!
In 2022, we began growing small batches of microgreens to distribute to friends and family. Three years and a whole lotta growing later, we're excited to bring our products to you!
Our family is honored to share the fruits (or rather, greens) of our labor with the greater Chicagoland community.
Why did we Go Micro?
There's a lot that sets microgreens apart from other produce, even other leafy greens! Here are just a few of the reasons we've decided to specialize in these little green powerhouses...

Environmentally Friendly
Our home-grown microgreens have a nearly invisible carbon footprint (up to 20 times lower than their adult counterparts*)! We utilize a controlled, indoor vertical farming technique and tightly-packed growing trays for high yields. This helps us save water, and ensures that no pesticides, growth aids, or any other chemicals are needed for our process, making our product 100% organic, non-GMO, and pesticide-free!

Nutritionally Gifted
As we advertise on all of our products, the small size and young harvest-age of microgreens means that their nutrient, vitamin, and mineral contents are incredibly concentrated! The vitamin content of microgreens is often up to 40 times more than that of their adult counterparts**, and they contain high amounts of minerals like potassium that help prevent and manage chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Some (like our broccoli greens) have even been found to contain compounds that can deter cancer!

Culinarily Versatile
We wanted to bring you a crop that could do it all, and the size and unique flavors and textures of these little greens give them an impressive number of uses in the kitchen! Microgreens shine as both an ingredient and a garnish -- finding their homes in sandwiches, salads, soups, smoothies, omelets, scrambles, grain bowls, and many more dishes!

Early bloomers
Microgreens grow incredibly quick! Paired with the fact that we do absolutely no post-harvest processing, we can bring our fresh, ready-to-eat greens to you fast and on-demand.
